Our History

About Keith M. Oliver OD (Founder)

Dr. Keith Oliver earned his undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He received his optometry degree in 1979 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.

Upon graduation, Dr. Oliver’s neighbor and mentor, Dr. Don Temple of Jonesville, NC, sold his two-day per week satellite office in Sparta, NC to the recent graduate. Excited to live in the Blue Ridge mountains with its rich scenery and plentiful outdoor opportunities, Dr. Oliver aspired to provide excellent and comprehensive medical eye care to a population whose service had been geographically neglected at that point in time.

An active member in the community for over three decades, Dr. Oliver served civic and local duties with the Sparta Lion’s Club and Oasis Shriners. He was also a contributing member of the American Optometric Society and North Carolina Optometric Society.

Dr. Keith Oliver provided accessible and dedicated care for 38 years until his passing in March of 2017. He maintained his responsibility to his patients and their care until the final days of his life. His legacy of selfless service lives in the hearts and memories of his patients, friends, and family. Above all, he is remembered for his kindness, his wit, his intellect, and compassion. Most that met Dr. Oliver would call him a friend.
